GoodWorks Events Calendar

GoodWorks

Here are some opportunities for Year 1 and Year 2 candidates to consider for completing their GoodWorks requirements.

Habitat for Humanity - The Catholic Coalition for Habitat - Volunteers must be 16 to participate and will be involved in building homes for families in the Los Angeles area. You will need to provide your own transportation. There are a limited number of slots for this amazing opportunity.

Beach Cleanup Day with Heal the Bay - We are working with Heal the Bay to organize another beach cleanup day. Stay tuned for more details!

Rice Bowl – collection boxes for Catholic Relief Services will be distributed in class.

Create Personal CRS Fundraising Site – What better way to celebrate your special day than by sharing your blessings with our poorest brothers and sisters overseas? Setting up a personal fundraising page takes just a few minutes. Upload a photo of the event or people involved, and add a few sentences about why you support Catholic Relief Services. Set your goal, email your friends and family, share your story on social media, and start raising money to support CRS’ lifesaving work around the world. http://crs.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=531

The H2O Project - The challenge is for 2 weeks, make water your only beverage. Save the money you usually spend on other beverages. At the end of 2 weeks, we will contribute 100% of the funds you collect to Living Water International to drill wells for people living without safe drinking water in the developing world.

Nativity Downtown Homeless Outreach – Nativity Confirmation program is glad to join forces with the Nativity Church downtown homeless outreach group to visit the homeless residents of downtown Los Angeles to share with them a meal, a warm coat and a grace filled smile. Join us on the first Saturday of each month at the back of the Annex by the bargain basement at 5:30 AM. You provide your own transportation.

What to bring:

- Individually packed meals like sandwiches, burritos, tortas, fresh fruit like apples, bananas and oranges, soft granola bars, boxed juices (since many do not have good teeth)

- Old coats, shoes or blankets (medium to extra large, and there are more men than women)

In the Los Angeles Magazine, December 2015 edition, an article on the homeless stated that "drugs, child abuse, and poverty are contributing factors to homelessness" but the most common reason was "not having enough love growing up."

FORMED Ambassador - Help parishioners get familiar with using FORMED on their smartphones, tablets, PCs, or TVs

UNBOUND.ORG - When you sponsor a child, a young adult or an elder through Unbound, you invest in individual ideas and initiative that change lives and even entire communities.
